In September 2018, 26-year-old Kenyan university student Sharon Otieno was seven months pregnant when she was abducted and murdered. Sharon had been having a relationship with Okoth Obado, the married Governor of Migori County, and DNA would later confirm that Obado was the father of her unborn child. Before her death, Sharon was preparing to expose their relationship to the media. She met journalist Barrack Oduor, who accompanied her to a meeting arranged through Obado’s personal assistant, Michael Oyamo. Sharon and Barrack ended up inside a car with unknown men. Barrack escaped by jumping from the moving vehicle. Sharon was later found dead near Kodera Forest. After an investigation and a court case that lasted almost eight years, Okoth Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero were convicted of Sharon Otieno’s murder in July 2026.
